Costa Maya is one of the popular stopovers of cruise ships. There are many stunning beaches that passengers can enjoy here. In the western Caribbean, this is one of the most diverse ports to cruise to. While the place is full of things that remind you of the history of the place, you can also experience a great time under the sun and enjoy the sand, the sea, and your sip. Below are some things you can do at this cruise destination.

You can simply relax at the Costa Maya Port. Salty water pools with swim-up bars, restaurants, shopping plaza, and artisan markets are around to give you a great time at the port. There are many places to go to at the port itself if you don’t want to go too far from your cruise ship. There is music from nearby restaurants where you can either swim in their saltwater pools or have a Mexican meal from their restaurants. Near the port is a place where you find many dolphins where you can swim with them or else explore the marine life below. If you rent bicycles or golf carts, you can visit places near the port and surrounding areas.

From the cruise port, you travel 30 minutes to reach the Mahahual Fishing Village. This fishing village is a beautiful one also with beautiful beaches and restaurants where you can eat. You can use the beach any time you want. Their beaches are of white sand and the water is shallow, warm and clear. The reef system that is out in the water keeps the water relatively calm and safe to splash around even for kids. Volleyball, light snorkeling or simply splashing around are the activities that you can enjoy at the beach.

In Costa Maya, you can also explore the Mayan Ruins in Chacchoben. Chacchoben, Kohunlich, and Dzibanche, are the three popular sites that you can explore here. What you can do here is to find large pyramid structures, and you can also climb and explore the historic ruins where you can view the general beauty of the region.

You can also tour the Spanish Fortress at Bacalar. From the port, you travel an hour and a half to reach the fortress which is one of the historical sights in the place. The Spaniards used this fortress to protect them from the attacks of pirates and locals. If you tour the museum, and the fort you will have a beautiful view of the BAcalara lagoon from its rooftop.

There are many activities that you can do in Costa Maya. The cruise port is located along the 2nd largest reef system in the world, the Meso-American reef system.
